Rodeo Team Members and Sponsors Participate in the Texas FFA State Rodeo, July 2021
Students can excel through the FFA by managing their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) project. These projects are designed and proven for over 90 years to teach students responsibility, stewardship, financial management and good sportsmanship. An SAE is a large financial commitment and the Huckabay FFA Alumni and Rodeo Boosters is here to assure that a families financial situation does not prevent our young people from embracing the experience and learning the values taught. THAT'S WHERE YOU CAN HELP.
What's a typical SAE cost? That's a great question. A show animal is on feed and under the care of the student for 140 to 300 days, depending on the specie and their last show. An average annual expense per student, per animal would look like this:
Steers - $8,000
Lambs - $5,000
Goats - $3,500
Pigs - $2,500
Rodeo - $2,500 (Initial animal cost NOT included)
Ag Mech - $1,000
Huckabay FFA & Rodeo has grown exponentially in the last few years. Growing from just 3 animals on feed in 2018-19 to 92 animals on feed in 2020-21. Huckabay ISD has met the challenge through the employment of two Ag Science teachers, new vehicles, trailers, equipment and a new ag science facility opening fall of 2021. Our students have risen to the challenge as the average student has nearly two animals on feed.
Will you rise to the challenge as well? If you would like to help support the future of our community by providing the catalyst of instilling the rural values we so desperately need, we certainly invite you to contact us.
